Our Gift

This was written on August 16th 2010

It's so appalling
Just how enthralling
Our consumerism is driven
The fact that we are given
This
At birth
An idea to look for worth
To spread ourselves through space
It's a competitive and bloody race
So bringing to the table
All those who are able
It's just how you play the game
Nobody is treated the same
Cause life isn't fair
Not this time
Not in this place
Not while we all race
Through life and through time
Working for our dimes
But not buying them
Or digging for a gem
To symbolize your marriage
Or pull an extra edge
So work toward your play
And live another day
But don't forget our present
Cause the precious
Grants our wishes
Setting us free
If only just to be
